Vintage Inspired Fashion at the Grammy's 2012

Bruno Mars and his skin-tight band delivered both musically and visually. They offered up subtle yet impressive choreography during their number!

Kelly Clarkson had on a wow gown to match her perfect voice. Grecian gowns are back!

Sir Paul McCartney donned a beautiful white jacket reminiscent of a 30's, 40's style with a modern fit. This man can do no wrong!

Taylor Swift's performance was an excellent example of modern country music at it's best. I loved the down-and-out depression-era styling of her and her band.

...But her non-performance gown reminded us that Taylor is still a red carpet star! Look at that Greek Key detailing!

Carrie Underwood made a brief appearance with crooning legend, Tony Bennett. I wish her hair wasn't in the way of this outstanding ensemble!

Bonnie Raitt was not in my best dressed category, but she gets a mention for maintaining her natural beauty and not following her peers that have gone under the knife (I'm talking to your Reba). Bonus points for dressing her age and out-singing Alicia Keys.

And of course, the big winner of the evening Adele. While I'm not fond of the giant exposed metal zipper in the back of her dress, her vintage inspired gown was worn very, very well. This dress goes all the way up the neck, down the sleeves and to the floor and it's still sexy. Kudos from me, like you needed it!

Under the watchful gaze of the Fremont bridge in a gravel lot in the Pearl district was a grandiose display. Cavalia exercises a beautiful mix of equestrian and performing arts. Conceived by Normand Latourelle and often labelled an equestrian ballet, the show integrates acrobatics, dance, aerial stunts, live music and equestrian arts. This spectacular show features an international cast ranging in experience from rookies to members of generations-long circus families.

As I was walking up to the entrance, my eyes filled with joy juice and I exclaimed, "I feel like a little girl!" Lo and behold, the place was actually full of little girls... and baby boomers... and us.

My first time in a circus tent! So exciting! It just happens to be the largest in the world!

Photography of the show is not permitted so I can't show you what you're missing. Okay, maybe just one! The trick riding was my absolute favorite!

Two large arenas on either side of the main stage provide the performers ample space to pick up incredible speed when heading for the stage!

Monitors backstage allow the performers to pick the perfect moment for a dramatic entrance!

What to wear to a horse show? Why cats and dogs of course!

The stable tent is home to 45 Stallions and Geldings. Sorry Mares, it's a man's world. A full list of the horse breeds in the show found here.

Cavalia has packed up and left town. You can catch these wonderful performers in the Seattle area beginning January 18, 2012. Thank you Cavalia!

It was supposed to be a few quick clicks of the camera to document our New Year's outfits and fleeting youth. The task quickly turned into a pre-enactment of the evening's events. You heard me right, pre-enactment. This is what Peggy and I planned on looking like by the time we got home from our festive celebration.

Jitterbuggin Cover Girl! Summer Stone

She's absolutely stunning. Her name is Summer Stone and she is one of Jitterbuggin's beautiful faces. In addition to being easy on the eyes, Summer is quite possibly the nicest person I've ever met. A transplant from Kansas, Summer is the mother of two brilliant children. And of course, she loves to dance.

As Becky of Studio 623 Photography lamented, "Even the throwaway photos are beautiful. Summer can not take a bad picture!"

On a beautiful sunny Sunday in the middle of October, we took a short drive to Sauvie Island to the legendary Pumpkin Patch.

Last Day of Summer

It was the last day of summer in 2011. The weather could not have been more beautiful and it was decided that a drive in the country was the best way to bid another gorgeous Northwest summer goodbye.

The sun shone all day long and I simply could not get enough.

Look close, you can see a freight train on the Washington side barreling through the tunnel!

The Vista House has been a place for travelers to rest, refresh, and take in the view since 1918.

Couples cuddle here all the time!

Deep within the Mt Hood National Forest near the border of the Warm Springs Indian Reservation lies a series of crystal clear lakes. Olallie Lake Resort is on the north end of Olallie Lake and boasts a breathtaking view of Mt Jefferson. The resort was built in the 1930's and still offers the same amenities; rustic cabins with wood stove heat, free of running water or electricity. Don't bother asking for the WiFi password, you're mobile phone will not work out here and they do not have a landline. How vintage.

Alley 33 Fashion Show

Hundreds of people came out on a beautiful July day to the First Annual Alley 33 Fashion Show. This show featured nineteen Portland fashion designers. We are going to show you some highlights of Jitterbuggin's walk!

The show was emceed by fashion designer Alicia Wood of Ms. Wood.

Fashion historian and dancer, Lorraine O'Neal.

Speaking of sirens, Peggy Lee Munson.

Wild Blue Yonder

The first of May was stunningly beautiful in the Portland Metropolitan area. A perfect day for taking a short field trip across the mighty Columbia river to the Pearson Air Field to watch vintage planes arriving and departing.

There are many vintage war planes on display at the Pearson Air Museum.
They also have USO dances here, big band and all!

May Flowers

As children, my classmates and I were set up by our teachers with crayons, construction paper and a stapler. And like magic we had a cone-shaped, gift-bearing, handled basket in no time. It might be considered crude by designer standards today, but it sent me on my way to a lifetime of crafting and resourcefulness!

After class, my siblings and myself would carry our baskets bearing fresh spring flowers carefully home to our mother.

The origin unknown, but I now imagine the contents of our baskets must have been some educators painstaking, yearlong effort and sacrifice to supply flowers from their gardens for the class on the first of May. That generosity didn't stop us from poaching a few more blossoms along the way.

We would hang our unknowingly Pagan gifts on the doorknob, ring the doorbell, and run away. We would return five minutes later with a 'no big deal' look on our faces and say, "Hey mom, where did the flowers come from?" She would nonchalantly say, "Oh, they just arrived, I don't know from whom. It IS May Day, you know." We never told her that they were from us and she never told us that we were total idiots for not figuring it out. Nor did she let on that we were little troublemakers for stealing flowers all the way home. Boy, we thought we had her!

In the spirit of things budding and blooming, Jitterbuggin has created a new 1940 style blouse in a floral feedsack print. It is called the Roseway and it will be available in the ALL NEW Jitterbuggin shop next week! Here's a sneak peak!
