It's my favorite holiday! There is nothing like getting that other holiday out of the way and starting fresh. The days are getting longer and with them unravel new paths of inspiration. Best of luck to you in 2013!

"The Siamese Cat Song, A Duet for Two Cats" by Peggy Lee and Sonny Burke

We have a brand new Siamese Cat Blouse in the Jitterbuggin shop and we took plenty of inspiration from the movies! Watch Peggy Lee and Sonny Burke study the story board and work out the musical numbers for the 1957 Walt Disney animated movie, "Lady and the Tramp", including, "The Siamese Cat Song". The, um, "Oriental number" begins around 3:30 in the clip.

Of course you must watch the end result!
When I was a kid growing up, my mother cringed when this song came on. She thought these cats were too snotty. Puuurrrrfect. I have a rascal Siamese cat of my own and I adore his crazy personality!
The new blouses are already moving fast! Channel your inner feline and get one today! Use code "Meow Meow" to save 25% on this blouse (any anything else you might want) now through Sunday!

Everything belongs to Disney, Please don't sue me.

Desert Winds, Wine, Shoes, and Théâtre de la Mode

Miss Peggy Lee and I recently took a trip to the Maryhill Museum of Art to see the new wing, the Rodins and of course the permanent Théâtre de la Mode exhibit.
We stopped of in Hood River, Oregon for a bathroom break and a quick promenade. Hood River is the windsurfing capital of the world, so you will need to hold onto your hat when you visit!

This store caught my eye despite being tucked in an alley. Just look at that sign! It's as big as the door!
Aaaand we have a successful impulse buy!
This store's stock room is a vault. And I thought padlocking my sheuz was excessive!
Oh right, we were going to the museum!
We are on the Washington side looking towards Oregon. You can't tell from our vantage point, but the mighty Columbia river is in between the mansion and the desert background.

  To the exhibits!
Théâtre de la Mode pulled together the talents of theater set designers, haute couture designers, accessory designers, milliners, and designer shoemakers.
Contributors include iconic designers like Schiaparelli, Christian Dior, and Cartier.

The war had a severe impact on the apparel industry. Couturiers and their customers fled occupied France in droves. Clothing businesses that struggled to remain open had to deal with extreme shortages of cloth, thread, and other sewing supplies.

As designers forged Théâtre de la Mode after French and American troops drove the Nazis out, rationing still ran deep. The houses couldn't quite shed their competitive past and they strove to out-design one another despite their limited resources.

The exhibit opened at the Louvre in 1945 and toured New York and San Fransisco in 1946. It was created to raise funds for war survivors and to help revive the French fashion industry in the aftermath of World War II.
Maryhill rotates the scenes with regularity. It is incredibly difficult to take decent pictures of the scenes due to the dimly lit exhibit. We can't have these clothes fading now! You must go and see it with your own eyes!

Off to the winery we go! The Maryhill Winery is a spectacular place to rest your bones after walking around all day. The view of the Columbia River Gorge is breathtaking!

 Glug, glug, glug.
Till next time!

Second Annual Alley 33 Fashion Show

A lovely Portland evening in late July was again the setting of the Alley 33 Fashion Show. The show offers an opportunity for emerging designers to get their looks seen and is also unique because it features designers that are producing their lines right here in Portland, Oregon.

These new Jitterbuggin designs were inspired by 40's cruise wear and vacation ensembles. I had some very special guest models join me. Let's have a look and see what Jitterbuggin will be offering in the coming year!
The incomparable Twila Jean modeling a white nautical look including a sailor blouse and high-waist, wide-leg pants.

Suzannah Hamlin-Stanley (you know her from her inspiring DIY blog Adventures in Dressmaking) wore a beautiful green-hued bamboo print Hawaiian halter sarong dress.

An asymmetrical design lends itself perfectly to this rayon landscape print all the way from Hawaii! This dreamy fabric moves so nicely! I love how the detachable drape floats in the wind!

Summer Stone in a summery white day dress with a gathered sweetheart bust, contrasting Navy trim, and adorable shoulder ties. Look at that beautiful smile!!!

Solanah Cornell of Vixen Vintage wows the crowd with a 40's inspired lobster print bathing suit. I simply can't wait to get these made up for you!

What a cast I tell ya! An amazing job was done by all! Thank you Alley 33!
